Don't feel ready to write?

A friend of mine used to be a substitute teacher. When she got the call in the morning that she would have a class that day, she wouldn’t feel ready. She asked another teacher about this.

“Of course you don’t feel ready. You’re still at home drinking your tea. When you get to school and have your class in front of you, you’ll be ready.”

Analogous to stopping before you’re done, start writing before you’re ready. You’ll be ready once you start. There will be a period of adjustment once you’re in front of your writing. To be ready isn’t to be free of this feeling; it’s to proceed through it.

I meditate each morning for 20 minues. I don’t feel ready until I’m 17.5 minutes into it, then I have 2.5 great minutes, and it’s done.
